The Netherlands impresses in phase 2 of the Euro Padel Cup

Last weekend, the time had finally come: the Netherlands was competing in the Euro Padel Cup. While the Netherlands didn't have to play in phase 1, the draw for phase 2 was scheduled for Thursday. It wasn't an easy draw, however, as the Dutch men found themselves in a tough group with Hungary, Finland, and Belgium. Belgium, in particular, is a dangerous opponent with strong players. It wasn't an easy task for the Dutch women either, with matches against Finland, Hungary, and Croatia.

Race progress – Men
The Netherlands kicked off against Hungary, and that proved to be a great warm-up round. Three clear victories without too much effort. The next day, Finland was on the schedule, and they proved much tougher. Nevertheless, the men managed to win all three matches in straight sets.

The top match against Belgium followed on Sunday. Both teams had won their previous matches, so this match determined who would advance to the Final 8 as group winner. The level was incredibly close, but the Netherlands once again managed to stay strong without dropping a single set.

This means that Sten Richters, Thijs Roper, Youp de Kroon, Julian Prins, Bart van Opstal, Menno Nolten, Mats Groen, and Nicolas van Betuw have qualified for the Final 8, which will be played sometime in November. There, they will compete against the best teams in Europe and have the opportunity to show that the Netherlands also belongs among the world's elite.

Race progress – Women
Just like the men, the women started their match against Hungary. The first match was exciting, but after that, they proved to be a bit too strong. The difference against Croatia was also clear, with another three victories.

Against Finland, the game was a bit more even. One match even went to the third set, but here too, the Dutch women emerged victorious.

They have also become group winners and can prepare for the Final 8. Marcella Koek, Stephanie Weterings, Maaike B etz, Janine Hemmes, Bo Luttikhuis, Tess de Vocht, Liza Groenveld and Avalon Segou Jonker will compete against the absolute top of Europe.

Proud and looking forward to November
All in all, we can be incredibly proud of our teams. Both the men's and women's teams haven't lost a single match and have shown they're ready for the highest level. In November, we'll see if the Netherlands can compete with the absolute world elite at the Euro Padel Cup Final 8!
